Providing psychosocial and mental health support to refugees, migrants and other emergency affected people living in urban settings is a growing professional challenge.

 

From developing to developed countries from the west to the east and the north to the south, emergency affected people are living in urban centers. After displacement, camps are designed to provide structured support. Urban settings are not!

 

During this conference, participants will share their experiences and research about the consequences of urban life for emergency affected populations and their creative efforts to provide effective psychosocial and mental health support.

The program will include panel discussions daily from 9am - 5pm.

 

On LAST DAY, all participants will be invited to set up booths to share their program activities through informal discussions, flyers and poster presentations. There will also be space available to show films.

 

The conference will conclude by:

• Preparing BEST PRACTICE MHPSS GUIDELINES FOR THE URBAN SETTING to submit to the Interagency Standing Committee MHPSS Reference Group.

• Conference papers will be edited into an online resource for MHPSS intervention in the urban setting.

 

The conference fee is $350 US dollars. This fee provides for the venue/training materials/

lunch - snacks/ ethnic buffet/ boat trip on the Nile River. Participants are responsible for their airfares and hotels.

 

Invitation letters will be provided to all who require it for visas. Please apply early for your visa since this can take time.

                   

The conference will be in English. Translation will not be available.
